Masterclass: Neurotechnologies from medicine to video games

Neurotechnologies are giving way to a new generation of therapeutic treatments, which can both help paraplegics to walk again, as well as treat neurodegenerative diseases. This also opens up the possibility of precisely monitoring virtual and robotic avatars and increasing our capabilities, and in this debate we will raise both the technical and the ethical issues.

Neurotechnologies are an upward technology encompassing applications in the medical field in the short term and in the medium-term entertainment sector.

In the medical field, this technology, on the one hand, is allowing people to be rehabilitated with paraplegia by helping them to walk again or people who have lost a body limb, allowing a bionic or mechanical arm to be implanted to replace the lost limb. On the other hand, it is also allowing Parkinson's treatments with implanted stimuli within the brain.

In the entertainment field, it has been shown how tetraplegic people have managed to interact with virtual environments only with the mind, and multiple companies in the video game industry want to make use of these technologies to make video games that fit each user.
